A sweet early-spring morning spent at home with this new family of five (including Ruby, their affectionate little dog, of course). They were deep into their first year of parenting twins, moving through their space in a continuous improvisational dance of caregiving while figuring it all out as they went. The morning was filled with their everyday routines, including a few firsts that they thought would be fun to photograph. Their first time tasting pancakes and waffles! It’s amazing how fast the expressions change from confusion to delight or disgust. And their first bath together, which was so tender I almost cried. We walked to both sides of their yard for some quick portraits to remember their first home, and in the end, it felt like I had made new friends.
I love these kinds of sessions so much – relaxed, mostly candid documentation of family life, as it looks and feels in this particular chapter. Even when it’s messy or chaotic, the photos will someday be a portal to the magic of this present time. I meet families where they’re at in this season of life to create an archive of transportive images that reflect their ephemeral selves and life together. Reach out here to book a session.
