The words that come to mind to describe Y + J’s wedding day in Big Sur are sincere, quiet, tender, and joyful. The care that went into the creation of this day was apparent in every thoughtfully planned aspect and detail, from the delicately braided floral arrangements to the honoring of their parents and elders throughout the day. Something I really admired was the way they allowed space for moments of pause and reflection, without a sense of urgency to fill every second with activity. Instead, the day felt totally relaxed, intentional, and true to them. I can’t imagine a more perfect place for their sweet, grounded wedding than the forests of Big Sur.
I’d like you to know, dear reader, that I don’t wax poetic for every wedding venue I come across – which has been, at this point, quite a few. Glen Oaks Big Sur is a magical place to get married – equally accommodating and amazing for elopements as it is for cabin camp-style wedding weekends. One of the things I love is that it has such a wide range of offerings for folks who want to be surrounded by majestic redwoods and the natural beauty of Big Sur on their wedding day. The property is sprawling and set in the forest on both sides of Highway One. There are multiple options for ceremony locations, including the fairy circle for smaller gatherings, and the redwood grove (chosen by Y + J). Couples and their guests can choose from 4 types of lodging (all on property) to fit a range of budgets: the Oak Tree Cabins, Adobe Motor Lodge, Redwood Grove Cabins, and the Bridge House where Y + J stayed. Running throughout it all are meandering trails, creeks, and the serene Big Sur River. Dinner took place on the patio terrace of Big Sur Roadhouse, centered around family and community with long tables and time to linger.
I loved being a part of this day and am grateful to Y + J for their warmth, and their kind words about working with me. <3
“The moment I stumbled upon Rachelle’s photos online, I just knew she was the one. Her images are packed with emotion, attention to detail, and a real love for the natural surroundings – they’re genuinely authentic! Some close friends couldn’t make it to our wedding, so I shared with them the whole album. They went through every single photo and told me they felt like they were right there with us. If you’re looking for someone to capture the true essence of your wedding day, I can’t recommend Rachelle enough. She’s truly amazing!”
