Questions and Answers

What is it like to work with you?

Think of me as a guest or friend – I’ll be working hard, but I also genuinely enjoy getting to know you and being a part of such a meaningful celebration. I’m a natural observer and often go unnoticed, especially during the ceremony when I like to be as unobtrusive as possible. I’ve been told many times that my presence is calming and comforting, even when things get a bit chaotic. I might get teary during a speech, laugh with your friends as I buzz in and out of conversations, and hug your parents at the end of the night.

We feel awkward posing for photos. What will that be like with you?

I think you should spend your wedding day having fun and living it, not posing for photos. So that’s not something I’ll ever ask you to do. No awkward posing, and no typical staged or overly stylized shots. Almost everyone I work with tells me beforehand that they feel awkward in front of the camera, including the couples who look completely natural in my portfolio. That’s because I focus on the in-between moments, authentic interactions and genuine emotion – all while making sure you feel comfortable and at ease. I think your true beauty shines through in photos when you feel like you can let down your guard and be yourself. My goal is always to capture that inner glow and all the real moments that tell the story of your wedding day, so you can look back at your photos and remember how it felt.

What about portraits of us and/or our families?

If you want to take a break from the party and spend a little time away from the crowd, I’ll capture you together in a natural, relaxed way. I keep it short, usually around 10-30 minutes, so you don’t miss out on the reception or hanging out with friends.

I know that having a few family group photos is often important to you or your parents, so I’ll ask in advance to find out exactly which family members you want to include, if any. Then I’ll make sure we find the best time and place for them to happen as quickly and smoothly as possible. And if your parents or anyone else pulls me aside to take photos of them during the reception, don’t worry! I’m always happy to accommodate everyone and I’m totally used to handling all kinds of fun and sometimes crazy family dynamics.

For the rest of the day, I’ll be keeping it documentary and artistic, capturing all the stuff that matters most. Photos of how it felt.

Do you travel for weddings?

Definitely! About 75% of the weddings I shoot are located in Northern California and the rest are across the States or abroad. There might be a travel fee outside NorCal, depending on timing, location and my current travel schedule, so just ask and I’ll send you a quote. There’s never any travel fees for weddings within 100 miles of San Francisco.

What kind of gear do you bring, and do you use backups?

I shoot all weddings with Canon 5D Mark III’s along with an array of prime lenses: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 135mm. I also bring 2 Canon speedlites, which I use almost exclusively for dance floor shots since I’m primarily a natural light photographer.

Absolutely everything is backed up! I bring multiples and extras of all my gear, and I shoot on two cards simultaneously (meaning images are constantly being recorded onto a CF card and an SD card at the same time). Then all the photos get backed up immediately after your wedding.

When and how will we get our images?

You’ll receive your collection of photos (individually edited by me) within 4 weeks of your wedding via a beautiful online gallery. You can share the gallery with friends if you want, and you’ll be able to download all your photos in high resolution directly from there.

Can we order prints from you?

Yes, you or your family and friends can order prints through your gallery. You can also make your own prints however you’d like, though sometimes it’s easiest for you to direct family members to order through the gallery. It’s completely up to you!

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes! If your venue requires a certificate of proof, let me know and I’ll provide it.

How do we book you?

Once you get in touch to inquire about your wedding, I’ll let you know if I’m available and send you pricing and details. After that, I always like to have a conversation and meet on the phone (or sometimes in person, when possible) so we can get to know each other a little bit. Booking me is easy: a signed contract and 50% deposit secures your date!
