FAQ

What is it like to work with you?

Think of me as a guest or friend – I’ll be working hard, but I also genuinely enjoy getting to know you and being a part of such a meaningful celebration. I’m a natural observer and often go unnoticed, especially during the ceremony when I like to be as unobtrusive as possible. I’ve been told countless times that my presence is calming and comforting, even when things get a bit chaotic. I might get teary during a speech, laugh with your friends, and hug your parents at the end of the night. I bring my whole, present self to every wedding, and I believe that’s at the core of the images I make.

Do we have to miss the celebration to take photos?

Definitely not! I think you should spend your wedding day having fun and living it, not posing for photos. So that’s not something I’ll ask you to do. No awkward posing, no repeating things “for the photo”, no typical staged or overly stylized shots, and no missing your entire cocktail hour. Almost everyone I work with tells me beforehand that they usually feel awkward in front of cameras, including many of the couples in my portfolio who look completely natural. That’s because I focus on the in-between moments, authentic interactions and genuine emotion – while making sure you feel comfortable and at ease. I think your truth and beauty shines through in photos when you feel like you can be yourself. My goal is always to capture that inner glow and all the moments that artfully tell the story of your wedding day, so you can look back at your photos and remember how it felt.

What about portraits of us and/or our families?

If the two of you would like to take a break from the party and spend a little time away from the crowd, I’ll capture you together in a natural, relaxed way. We’ll keep it short, usually just 10-20 minutes, so you don’t miss out on the reception or hanging out with friends.

I know that having a few family portraits can be important to you or your parents, so I’ll ask in advance to find out exactly which family members you want to include, if any. Then I’ll make sure we find the best time and place for them to happen as quickly and smoothly as possible. If your parents or anyone else pulls me aside to take photos of them during the reception, don’t worry, I’m always happy to accommodate everyone. And I’m very used to handling all kinds of (sometimes crazy) family dynamics.

Do you travel for weddings?

Yes! About 75% of the weddings I shoot are located in Northern California, and the rest are across the States and abroad. Just ask about your location and I’ll send you a travel fee quote. There are never any travel fees for weddings within 100 miles of San Francisco.

What kind of gear do you bring? How do you back up images?

I shoot all weddings with two Canon 5D Mark III’s along with an array of Canon prime lenses: 24mm, 35mm, 50mm and 135mm. I also bring 2 Canon Speedlite flashes, which I use almost exclusively for dance floor shots since I’m primarily a natural light photographer.

Absolutely everything is backed up immediately. I bring multiples and extras of all my gear, and I shoot on two cards simultaneously (meaning images are constantly being recorded onto a CF card and an SD card at the same time). Then all the photos get backed up right after your wedding.

When and how will we get our images?

You’ll receive your collection of photos (individually edited by me) within 4 weeks of your wedding via a beautiful online gallery. You can share the gallery with family/friends if you want, and you’ll be able to download all your photos in high resolution directly from there.

Can we order prints from you?

Yes, you and/or your family can order prints through your gallery. You can also make your own prints and albums however/wherever you’d like. Sometimes it’s most convenient to direct family members to order through the gallery. It’s completely up to you!

Do you have liability insurance?

Yes! If your venue requires a certificate of proof, let me know and I’ll provide it.

How do we book you?

Once you get in touch to inquire about your wedding, I’ll let you know if I’m available and send you pricing and details. After that, I always like to have a phone or video conversation (or sometimes in person, when possible) so we can get to know each other. Booking me is easy: a signed contract and 50% deposit secures your date!
